Fairfield Safe Meters is a citizen action group in Fairfield Iowa working to bring safer alternatives to the currently more than 1100 Neptune E-Coder wireless water meters already installed in Fairfield homes.
Independent testing at http://www.intentionalenvironment.com/smart-meters finds the Neptune E-Coder water meters that are being installed in Fairfield emit RF radiation pulses every 14 seconds, 24 hours a day. These pulses are as high as 15,000 microWatts per square meter at 2-3 foot distances. The International Institute of Building Biology and Ecology has a standard for sleeping rooms of under 0.1 as “No Concern” and anything over 1,000 as “Extreme Concern”.
In April 2012 a distinguished international association of physicians and medical professionals issued a position paper on Smart Meters. This group is the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) and they are recommending an immediate caution on Smart Meter installation due to potentially harmful RF exposure. See the paper online at: http://aaemonline.org/emf_rf_position.html
Key findings and recommendations of the AAEM 2012 report:
• An immediate caution on Smart Meter installation due to potentially harmful RF exposure.
• Use of safer technology for Smart Meters, such as hard-wiring, fiber optics or other non-harmful methods of data transmission.
• Multiple studies correlate RF exposure with diseases such as cancer, neurological disease, reproductive disorders, immune dysfunction, and electromagnetic hypersensitivity.
In view of this recent caution from the American Academy of Environmental Medicine we the undersigned ask the City of Fairfield to offer homeowners safer alternatives to the Neptune E-Coder Water Meter.
